Riotous 'scenes' were witnessed when the t Government tried , t<j' auction six cows, seized for. non-payroeint of Tipperary farmers’ rates, • Hundreds of fanners, thronged the ring and were amazed '.when a man, calling himself John Brown, • bid fourteen pounds. He proved to be a polieeuuau and'he was'the only- bidder. - ' lie '• the '/eattile, 4 .whereupon he was attacked' by., irate - anti-de’ Valera farmers. His coat Was torn and his trousers removed, arid the crowd attempted to‘ belabour * him ' with sticks. • Civil guards rushed to the spot and escorted the ’policeman, while farmers chaired the cattle-Owner, and gang ‘Tipperary!’’', while somebody called 1 out ‘‘put up de Valera, for sale!” Many of the farthers are supporters of Mr McDermott, 1 .
