SLANDER ACTION
J. T. LANG SUED FOE. £20,000. BY FORMER. AGENT GENERAL. (.Australian Press Association). SYDNEY, September 20'. Albert Charles Willis, former AgentGenera] for New South. Wales, began his action for slander, claiming twenty thousand pounds as damages from Mr John Thomas Lang, the leader of the State Labour opposition. The suit arises from the Bulli by-election campaign (in which Willis was defeated), the plaintiff alleging that Mr Lang addressed public meetings which he informed that Mr Willis was under the domination and influence of the political opponents of the Labour movement, which had seriously prejudiced his, Willis candidature, as a Labourite. He also alleged that an attempt was made to hound him out of public life. The plaintiff’s counsel made frequent references to Mr Lang’s debenture of £13,000 over the ‘‘Labour) Daily” newspaper, and said that he would prove by cheques that £SOOO which Mi Lang said he had advanced to that newspaper had been drawn from party funds. The hearing was adjourned.
