MOVIE BALL

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. . Gay 'decorations, bright music, a good Hoor, and ample and complete arrangements all combined, to add to the pleasure of the entertainment last evening when a Movie Hall was held in aid of the funds of the Hokitika L'oircekition 'Society, and the function was voted highly successful by the large number of patrons present. Perhaps the only disappointing feature was that patrons did not fully rise to the occasion of the “movie” feature by appearing more largely in costume, either impersonation of screen artists, or fancy, hut nevertheless there were quite a few present in costume, and they provided a merry interlude in the dancing when the parade was held.

The judges were the Mayoress (Mrs G. A. Perry), Mrs W. J. Radford, and Messrs W. Jeffries and F. McCabe, and tlie awards were made a-s follow: —Humourous movie character Miss Estelle liandall and Mr B. Ricketts, (Micky and Minnie Mouse); open moveie characer, Miss C. Lynn (Janet Gaynor), Mr McEnaney (Hunchback of Notre Ha me), Mrs Campbell (The Bat), Mr .T. Hall (Ronald Coleman) ; most original costume, Mrs Inwood (Things that are past). The organisation left little to be desired, and the supper room delectables were done full justice to, the four sittings being 'well cared for by the committee under Mesdames T. Stuart and A. Parkhill, Excellent music was played bv the Happiness Bovs’ Dance Band who- introduced a pie'asing novelty to Hokitika dances by their appearance in uniform jackets which added a bright tone to the general colour effect, Mr A. Thomas was M.O,
