SHELTERING OFF KAPITI IS. (Per Presc Association — Copyright.} WELLINGTON, September 20. A report was received at Wellington tiffs afternoon, that a- small vessel, believed to be in distress, had been siglited two or three miles off the Paekakariki. beach, and was attempting to beat up under the lee of Kapiti Island. There was a heavy nor’-wester blowing, and a strong sea running at the time. Later, the vessel was reported to h'ave run under Kapiti into shelter, j The vessel is probably the auxiliary schooner Huanui, of 144 tons, with a cargo of coal from Greymouth for Eoxton. The Huanui had been standing off Foxton for two days, having been un'ible to work the bar. With the wind, freshening, she probably decided to run down the coast to Kapiti for shelter. The Huanui left Greymouth ten days ago with her Foxton coal cargo, sailing on the afternoon 'of Monday, 11th inst.
