There were twenty-seven candidates for the annual confirmation by the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. . Rev. Campbell West Watson), at the morning service at All Saints’ Church yesterday. There was a very large congregation, the seating accommodation Being atxed to its utmost. The candidates were eight, males and 14 females from Hokitika, two males from Woodstock, one male from Kanieri, and two females from Rimu.

The public interest in the forthcoming Movie Ball is now widespread. Great curiosity is being shown as to who will be who, and it will be possible to recognise Norma, Bebe, Nancy, Mary, Douglas, Charley, Harold and George in the many characters to be delineated. Characters from the old world times will likewise be again in the flesh, so that there will be something of a historical pageant when the -parade takes place at 8.30 o’clock. It promises to be a great entertainment. The musical programme is in the hands of Mr Ces Williams and his Happiness Boys, and Mr Thomas will ho Master of Ceremonies. The ladies responsible for the supper and refreshments are a arranging to provide a special spread, and everything possible will be done to cater liberally for the pleasure and enjoyment of patrons.
