STEEL CAGE TRIAL
AMERICAN KIDNAPPERS. OKLAHOMA CITY, August 29. A steel cage in the courtroom, Italian fashion, is being installed by the assistant-District Attorney for the trial of Harvey Bailey (who is described as a real desperado) for kidnapping. With 13 others, Bailey has been indicted for the- kidnaping of Mr Charles ITrehel, Oklahoma- millionaire and oil magnate. United States officials are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the electrocution of the ringleaders of the gang, who, some- officers consider, may be the men who arranged the details of the Lindbergh kidnapping. Dozens of threatening letters and telephone calls have been received this week by Mr TJrschel and other witnesses,, and a special detachment of United States troops will take charge of all transport arrangements to protect their lives against further outlawry. The assistant-District Attorney announces that Bailey and Bates will be transported to Oklahoma City for trial shortly, and adds: “If any of their confederates wish to meet our cavalcade along the road, this desire will not be denied to them.”
