WOMEN’S FASHIONS
DlUPJSlt’s SUMMING UP. LONDON, August 30. An -age in which drapers’ stores will be mere beauty parlours, in which tile lingerie departments will be composed of tat-ooists and frocks will be cosmetics, was predicted for the near future by Mr Holbrook Jackson, in an address to the Drapers’ Conference at Oxford. “'Women are becoming too shy to wear clothing,” declared the speaker. He asserted that the abandonment of clothing necessarily follows women’s emancipation and entry into industry. As they shed tlicir garments they become less attractive, and have therefore more chance of becoming efficient in businosa slid industry, he said. Another prominent draper, Mr Trevor Fenwick, said that selling fashions and styles to-day was like backing horses, except- that nobody gave any tips, “Fashions are a more powerful force now than ever and have been, affecting both men and women,” said Air Fenwick.
