PRESBYTERIANS
IN OTAGO AND SOUTHLAND. (per Press Association — Copyright.) OAAIARU, August 30. The annual synod of the Presbyterian Church in Otago and Southland, opened at Oamaru yesterday. The Aloderator (The Rev. A. AleNeur), presided over the opening session at which there was a representative attendance. The Rev. A. G. . Wedderspoon was elected Aloderator -of the synod for 1933, and the Rev. Walter AlacLean (Oamairu), Moderator designate for 1934. The request of the. Otago branch to the Council of Religious Education to grant £2OO to employ an organiser ot the- Nelson system of. religious, instruction ill State schools in . Otago and was not .granted by. the Synod. It was sympathetic but regretted, it had no funds from which, the grant could lawfully be made. A big committee was appointed to cosfer regarding,. the nomination of professor for mental and moral philosoply at tile Otago University in succession to Prbfessor Dunlop.
