“It was unfortunately a game •>. which lent itself to rough play, and Hhe | eferee said after the match " that he should have ordered off men on both sides, said Mr. A. E, McFhail, President of the Canterbury Rugby Union,- when the Dunedin message was submitted to him 'for comment last night. “Perhaps the referee allowed a little more latitude than he should, but he apparently considered the: game was a friendly fixture.” Although he thought that the matter of giving up the game should not be commented on without fudjier , cbnaideiaaion, Mr iMePhail , said that it .seemed hardlyworth ( while bringing up thi s question, bpcause it wa 6 not as if the same team* met every.year, u ' vi. 1 , 1
