USEFUL JACK TARS
FOREST FIRE FOUGHT.
INCIDENT IN DALMATIA.
BELGRADE, August 8,
When a fire began in the magnificent cypress forests on the Peljeshatz Peninsula in Dalmatia, British sailors from the Mediterranean Fleet, which is anchored at Korchula, were rushed to the scene with fire-fighting apparatus. After five hours the sailors apparently had subdued the fire, but it broke out again later, spreading rapidly before a high wind.
The sailors returned and fought the fire throughout the night, eventually extinguishing it.
They received a great ovation from the inhabitants when they were rejoining their ships.
