Hermann Baucke of Rimu, was brought to the Westland Hospital, on Thursday, suffering from burns about the body. He tripped in his hut and fell head foremost over the fire which fortunately, was'not big. When falling his head penetrated the iron chimney. The burns will necessitate a long period in the hospital.

The members of the central riding of Westland County, accompanied by Mr W. Jeffries, County Chairman, and Mr Sampson, assistant district engineer, visited Koiterangi yesterday to inspect the overflow of Vine creek, which in flood time spreads over the adjacent country, and scours the roads. The problem of dealing with a difficult question at an economical cost was gone into thproughly, and estimates of cost in regard to different proposals are to be prepared, and will be considered at the next County meeting.
The engagement is announced says a Christchurch, paper, between Jules 0. J. Malfroy, of Wellngton, formerly of Hokitika, and Rose Mary, elder daughter of Mr C. E. H. Somerset 'and the late Mrs Somerset, of Ashbrook Hall, Holliiigton, St. Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex, England. Mr Malfroy, who has many friends in Christchurch, where he »was formerly a student at Canterbury College, has had a distinguished career. Having gained the L.L.M. degree in New Zealand, he was granted a legal travelling scholarship, and for two years studied international law at Cambridge University. Prom there lie gained a fellowship to Colombia University, New York, and Inter gained a fellowship to Berkeley College, N California. While at Cambridge lie visited the Argentine Republic as a member of an English Rugby football team. He is now living at Cambridge, England.
