THERMAL ACTIVITY
PLAN TO CREATE ITS INGREASE
BY RAISING THE LAKE LEVEL.

On the ~ ground that the continued low level of. Lake Rotorua- was .responsible for. a decrease -in tlieriiral. aetiyity, a, deputation from the Rotorua •Borough' Council waited on the Minister of. Public, Works (Mr Bit.ch.ener) with a, request that ,steps be taken by the department to raise the waters of the lake to the level existing .ten years , ago,. Members of the deputation, -sard that observations oyer a long period had shown conclusively ..that a definite connection existed, between th© -level of the lake and the height of the thermal springs in the vicinity. It wa 6 -cOiisidered that, if some means could -be taken to raise the level of Lake Rotojti, and consequently., of Lake RA-orua which flows into it, the thermal attractions would- A be .gre&tly. increased, while’ the fishing in both lakes would be improved. The Minister said that .th© proposal wa 6 a- new , ©ne to.;him, but that he would -confer with the Ministers in charge of the Tourist Department add Internal Affairs, who were also inter, e-sted in the matter.; -
