MACHADO’S LIFE
NOW IN DANGER
ASSASSINS REPORTED EN ROUTE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph-Copyright.) (Received this day at IL2O a.m.) NASSAU (Bahamas), August 24. Reports that an aeroplane carrying men determined to assassinate Machado, the deposed President of, Cuba, had left Cuba, for this city, caused the placing of guards, armed with rifles, to-day about Machado’s hotel.
The Bahaman police generally do not carry firearms, and the issue of rifles indicates the gravity with which Colonial Officials regard the report.
(A Havana message on August 19 stated: A band of four men are taking the trail after Machado. One member of the group lost lii s three . sons during violence in the course of Machado’s regime. The band has sworn to kill Machado or be killed in the attempt.)
