A GERMAN HONOUR
FOR NEW ZEALANDER .(Per Press Association, Copyright). Christchurch, August 23. A signal of Honour has been bestowed on Mr A. C. Carston, chief officer of the -steamer Karagola and a native of Little River, Canterbury, by the President of "Germany, Mafchal Paul von Hinde'n'burg. (Mr Carstr; 11 was in charge of a - boat from the steamer which rescued the crew Of a German ‘flying-boat Which had been forced’ down'at sea off tlie coast of Burma. In recognition of ‘Mr Cafstori’s Services the President has 1 sent him a gold watch, bearing the Gerinaii Eagle and an inscription. The Dofnier flying-boat was commanded by 'Captain Wolfgang veil Gronau, a German airman with many ‘ notable flights to his credit. On the morning of 'October 10, 1632, it was forced down into the sea off the coast of Burma by engine trouble. Captain von Gronau and his companions were taken- on-board the Karagola, which towed the'.', flyingboat to port. Captain von Gronau was on a flight round • the world from east to west. -He. left the island of Sylt, off the coast of Schleswig-Holstein, and went to Labrador. He flew to Manila and was to have followed a route home from there by Java,-'- Ceylon, • and Bagdad.
