WORLD CONFERENCE

OPINION OF MR G. W. FORBES

OTTAWA, August 21

Consultations' between representatives of the British Empire countries during and subsequent to the World Economic Conference were “certainly very worth while” in the opinion of Mr G. W. Forbes, who was here on Sunday. He will visit Toronto, Niagara Falls and Chicago. He said the Conference itself was “not a big success, nor yet a big failure.”

He had nothing to say. as to the nature of his recent conversations with the Minister of Trade and Commerce, Mr Stevens. When asked regarding the possibility of again extending the New Zealand-Canada trade treaty, Mr Forbes remarked that the Convention did not expire until November 24. He did not indicate wliat action was contemplated by either the Canadian or the New Zealand Government, Mr Forbes left for Toronto. on Sunday night, .following a discussion with the Acting-Premier, Sir George Perley, and the Minister of Trade, Mr Stevens. The conversation, it is understood, traversed the whole field of reciprocal trade between Canada and New Zealand, with special attention to New Zealand butter importation into Canada,
