MONTHLY MEETING
Tlie usfial meeting' of the Hokitika branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, was held last evening. The meeting took the form of a quarterly general meeting. The following members of the executive were present: Messrs W. E. Brown (president), R.. J. .Appleton, 11. Paterson, Thornhill Cooper, J. L. Menzies, T. Lynch, T. Stuart, 0. Hart, G. A. King, and A. E. Armstrong. Apologies were received from- Messrs : S. Moore, G. .Gilchrist, and Rev. Knights. In addition there were about twelve members present. The president opened the meeting-by explaining to those present that the idea of holding a quarterly general nieeting was to give the members generally a greater insight into the activities of the branch, and at the same time to create a greater interest in its affairs. He then apologised for being unable to remain . for . the rest of the meeting and asked Mr Appleton (vicepresident) to T a ke the chair. The following inward correspondence was received and dealt with as follows :
From the Bank of. N.Z. forwarding deposit receipt for £lO received from Headquarters.
From the Kumnra sub-branch, acknowledging receipt of copy of rules and forWai-difig a .list of unemployed exservicemen in Ivumhra. From the Waiinate branch accepting the challenge for • a < membership campaign- and advising the present number of members is 56, (Hokitika 62), From the Auckland branch, soliciting orders for poppies for next year. It was decided to. buy the poppies from Christchurch as per usual and that the usual number be purchased 1 , From tlie New Zealand, branch of the British Red Cross Society, granting authority to the . secretary to pm chase tobacco for mental hospital patients. From the Westland Patriotic Society forwarding a grant of £34 for relief (<1 unemployment among px-service men. It , was}'decided,to use the amount in the usual method and to forward a ; grant of £5 to both Ross and Kumara sub-branches.

The meeting then adjourned to spend a social hour.
