In the women’s national singles championship semi-final at, Eorest Hills to-day, Mrs Helen Wills-Moody defeated Miss Betty Nuttall.;?—6, 6—2, 6—2,: Mrs Moody by a narrow margin defeated Miss Nuttall in one of the most tense matches .of , t hc. current to.u rnament. The Englishwoman’s 6—2 .victor in the first set .was sensational. Her drives were unusually hard. Playing desperately for every point, her backhand and service functioned perfectly.
