4 drawn game resulted in tlie annual rugby match;between the Hokitika anti West Christchurch District High Schools on C’asg Square yesterday afternoon, each side scoring six points, For Hokitika, Bradley and Morgan scored tries, while for the visitors O’Brien and Price scored. The match was fast and keenly contested, and very interesting for the spectators. Play was confined' chiefly to the forwards who waged a hard struggle while occasionally the home backs flashed in to. the picture. The visitors were not up to their full strength, several'of their leading players being absent. Mr J. L. Menzies was referee.

The derailment of the van of the Greymouth-Hokifcika train during .shunting operations at Kumara laso evening caused some delay in the arrival of Greymouth and Christcliurchbound passengers. It also occasioned.the delay at Greymouth for 20 minutes of the goods and passenger train for Christchurch, on which there were about thirty passengers. Considerable difficulty was experienced in replacing the van on the rails, the train from Hokitika not arriving at Greymouth until shortly before 10 o’clock. Meanwhile the passengers had been brought through to Greymouth in a bus, the majority of them going on to Christchurch.

The annual inter-school debate between West Christchurch and Hokitika District High Schools was held in All Saints’ Hall last evening. The subject for discussion was “That the school is a more powerful factor in the moulding of character than is the home.” Hokitika took the affirmative, and West Christchurch the negative, the judges announcing the result in iavour of Hokitika. The judges were Messrs G. A. Perry, J. A. Murdoch, Rev. G. A. Naylor and Major Ward, who congratulated the speakers on the high standard of the debate. The teams were:— Hokitika, W. Butland, J. Dorreen and A. Coles; West Christchurch, F. Murray, A. Mahoney and J. Robertson. At the conclusion a pupil’s dance was held.

A company is now being formed in Christchurch to develop aerial travel for tourist and o tber purposes. It is the intention to commence operations on the West Coast of the South Island about Christmas time with a service from Hokitika to the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. Sight-seeing tours to South Westland and other scenic places of interest will also bo catered for. Later the services will be extended to other parts.- The prospectus of this' company will shortly be issued and a limited number of shares will bo offered to the public. It is understood that several well-known business men from Canterbury, the West Coast and Otago and Southland will be in the 1 direotorat Captain Mercer, instructor to the Canterbury Aero Club, is taking a prominent part in the formation of the new company.
