STRATFORD, August 18,

At the meeting of 'the Stratford Hospital Board, a report was received from .Dr Da Steven, medical; .superin- , tendent taking exception to the remarks, made at the Board, meeting .on Jgly 18. Dr Steyen. said the . number of .nu,rsci3 ; who had gone through 'the hospital in the last five years, wr.<s fifty, not ninety.. Ho emphatically, .refused any suggestion of undue harshness on ■the part of the matron. He stated “hat tut Stratford over the period were less than formerly and he believed they were less than in other hospit’lc. A letter signed by fifteen nurses, stated that they appreciated the methods adopted ,by the matron in disciplining -the institution, and. that the statement made by a Board member that'the matron was too hard, incorrect and absurd. The letter emphasised tile ‘ loyalty- of the rdaff to the hospital and staled the staff expected a ircciprocal measure of loyalty from the Board.
