LONDON, August 17
The “Daily Mirror” says it has the highest authority stating that plans are already being considered for holding an Empire cricket tournament in 1966 betwea England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies and New Zealand,
It has been suggested all of the countries play each other twice, each game played to a finish, and points being awarded on a similar system to that used in the county championship, which would be suspended for one' season
A generous proportion of the proceeds would be paid the various counties, enabling them to pay professionals to continue the championship in the following year. The whole project will be, discussed at the Imperial Cricket Conference.
The “Mirror” adds that some drastic step is needed if the game is to retain its traditional position in the life of the nation.
