At the annual meeting of the Cam terbu-y Education Board yesterday, Mr W. P. Spencer was elected chairman in place of Mr H. J. Bignell, there being no other nominations. It was decided to place on record the Board’s appreciation of Mr Bignell’s services as chairman. r -
There .was a good attendance at 1 tlie Soldiers’ Hall lust evening, when the ■ annual ball, conducted by the Hokitika Druids’ Lodge, was held. Complete arrangements for the success of the function had been made and. an enjoyable time was spent. Music was played by the Happiness Beys' Dance- Band, extras being contributed by Misses R, Jacobs and J. Robinson.
H-a-le and hearty at 92 to-day, Air W. A. Thompson, -of Weld Street, is receiving the congratulations of his many friends. Air Thompson arrived m Christchurch in 1864, and came to •Hokitika ‘two years later,, and 'has resided here ever since. Air Thompson is therefore one of ' the two oldest adults to arrive here. Many friends are calling on Air Thompson, who ha,s been a prominent citizen of the town over the years, and extending hearty congratulations and best wishes.
