PUBLICAN FINED
FOR OBSCENE LANGUAGE.
(Pt Press Association— Copyiight.)
CHRISTCHURCH, August 14
As a seffuel to an argument over a bet on Saturday, William Brown, 54, hotelkeeper of Greyinouth, was tliis morning fined 10s for drunkenness and £3, in default fourteen days in gaol for obscene language.
The police stated that after the arrest of Brown, the crowd became hostile and there was a difficulty in getting Brown away. The Magistrate (Mr Mosley) said the hostility of the crowd was a bad feature. The police were big best friends and for the crowd to evince hostility was simply ridiculous. It showed how the public could misconceive an action of this kind.
