WELLINGTON, July 26,
A, police iparty, finding it -jnipr*c* ticablc to force the doors or windows ol promises in. Tory Street, suspected of being m opium den, cut through the roof early this morning. They arrested nine Chinesse, eight of whom appeared in court, charged with being found on premises used for the smoking of opium, and the other, Willie Wong, with permitting his premises to be used as an opium den, with being unlawfully in possession of utensils used in connection with opium smoking and with wilfully obstructing a police sergeant in the execution of his duty. The same premises were raided in March, but the fortifications, which then were strong, had been greatly increased. Accused were remanded until this afternoon.
