The first year of Iraq’s independence has boen marked by a revival of the old spectacle of a public execution, in the hope of stemming a flood of violent imurders, from which, the ✓community is suffering. Its deterrent effect is doubtful, however, ns thousands flock daily to watch the hanging, but appear in no way horrified.
