The Dominion conference of the New Zealand Women’s Institute, tlie largest and most representative ever held here, opened tins morning.
iMiss Amy Kaine, of Wellington, presided over 250 visiting delegates. In addition, there were many -Canterbury representatives. They were welcomed by Mrs /VV. Support was -promised for a; request -by Dr W. -Irving, that the conference urge on "the Government- the need for the erection -of afi’ obstetrica’i hospital in : Dunedin. ' • " •
. Lady Wigr.irn, on. behalf of the Red Crcgs Society, gave -an -address concerning the movement tihrdughV>ut : the world, andf aslied .fhel delegptes .to help the Red Cfossj the "aim -being'to have a branch in every town and village of New Zealand. .
. The delegates were later entertained at a civic welcome -by the Mayor, -Mr -Sullivan, who expressed high admiration of the great progress of the movement and for- the part played by women in these trying times.
