WHO PAYS FOR ADVERTISING

INVERCARGILL. .July 25
The question of whether an advertising .account in respect to his campaign at the last general election in 1931 was payable by the candidate himself, °r by the committee sponsoring his candidature, formed the basis of a civil claim at the Magistrate’s- Court to-day. The plaintiff was the Southland News •Coy., which sought to recover from William McChesney the sum of £39 13 6 6d, being advertising in connection v/.h : f %> defendant’s campaign as a Parliamentary candidate for Invercargill .in 1931.. The following defendants were joined to the action on the alleged ground that the debt sued for was incurred by them, o r by their authority; —Arthur Hume Mackrell, share broker; Henry Francis Drewe, manager; Frederick George Stevenson, retired secretary ; land 'llnurs Wemsley, accountant ; all of Invercargill.
After ll'emgtiliy evidence had been heard, the hearing was adjourned until Friday, when legal argument will be heard.
