WEST COAST RUGBY UNION.
GREYMOUTH, July 26
The weekly meeting of the executive of the West Coast Rugby Union was held last evening at Greymouti.. It was deckled that the rules' of the McLean Trophy as discussed and submitted to the Westland Sub-Union last meeting be adopted. Tnle Westland Sub-Unioin 'requested that the Dittman ' Shield match he played at Hokitika next Saturday. On the motion of Alessrs Ryan and Eggleton it was decided that the SubUnion be advised, that owing to the state of the competition at the present time, the Union regrets that it is unable to accede to the request.
In regard to a request by the Ross Club to play the runners-up in the Shield competion, it was decided; to advise them that at the present time the Union is unable to state who the runners-up are, but that they would b© advised later.
In regard to the Buffer home-and-home game, it was decided that Buffer be asked to receive a deputation on the day of the Seddon Shield match, and that two members of the Westland Sub-Union be asked to attend. It was decided on the motion of Messrs Ryan and Kyle, that the Gold-en-Bay West Coast game, at Greymouth, on August 5, be broadcast, at the discretion of the Rugby Union. The Nelson Union advised that they were endeavouring to arrange a • schools’ tournament among the schools in the Seddon Shield districts, and it was decided to write to the schools asking for their opinion, and also for any suggestions regarding the holding of r. tournament.
The Canterbury Rugby Union wrote regarding the appointment of referrees for the West Coast v. Canterbury match, and it was decided that the Canterbury Union be asked to appoint the referee.
The Seddon Shield team is to be selected on Saturday night as it is to be assembled in Greymoutli on the following Wednesday to play a picked team. The secretary was instructed to approach the railway department regarding the running of a special train to Christchurch on September 2 for the Canterbury-West Coast Ranfurily Shield game. Newman Shield Game: Grey T.H.S. v. Hokitika D.H.'S. at Rugby Park, No 1 ground at 1.30 (Mr T. Mclntosh), next Saturday.
