The death of Mr Joseph—Regaldo of Bllaketown took place this morning at the Grey River Hospital. A native of Italy, the late Mr Regaldo was horn 67 years ago in the city of Turin, but came as a young man to New Zealand, and he had resided in this district for very many years. He leaves a family of three daughters, Mesdames E. Noble (Rapahoe) and E. J. Hill (Blaketown) and Miss Julia Regaldo (Blaketown), and two sons, Joseph (Auckland) and John (Blaketown).

At the Magistrate’s Court, Greymouth, yesterday, appearing on remand, Albert Fredrick Clarke, 50, was charged that, on April 15, at Westport, with intent to defraud, he obtained from Lawrence Johnson the sum of £8 12s, by means of a valueless cheque drawn on the Commercial Rank of Australia, Westport. Accused, who was not represented by counsel, pleaded guilty, and elected to be dealt with summarily. Sergeant Hodgins said accused had a long list of convictions but he thought that drink was his whole trouble. He had spent all the money he obtained on the cheque, and had no money to make restitution. Asked if he had anything to sav, defendant, asked that he be treated leniently, lie bad a job to go back to. and was prepared to take out a prohibition order against himself. The Magistrate said that unfortunately accused had a very long list, including eight convictions for false pretences. He would be sentenced to three months’ imprisonment in the Greymouth prison.
