LEPROSY IN N.Z.

CASE REPORTED AT HUNTLEY.

HINDU SENT TO MAKOGAL

AUCKLAND, July 18

A case of leprosy has been reported from the neighbourhood of Hnntly. The patient- is a Hindu, aged 45 years, a storekeeper He has resided in Huntly for a number of years. He was removed to Hamilton and was admitted to the Waikato Hospital, where be was placed in isolation.

The disease is not in an advanced etaac. The case has been reported to the Health Department, which is making arrangements for the patient ,to be sent to tlie leper station at Makogai Island. A Department official stated that leprosy is extremely rare in Now Zealand. When the disease cVd occur it was nearly always confined to the Maoris.
