WELLINGTON, July 14
M r H. H. -Sterling, chairman oi the Railways Board, says the preHmiinaiy figures of operating results of the four weekly period ended on June 24, sh°\\s, as compared with the corresponding period last year, an increase'of gross Toveame of £9816, and a decrease of expenditure- of £2208, making an increase in the net revenue of £12024.
Taking the result for the portion of the financial year from April 1 to June 24, the gross revenue decreased by '£21,402 and expenditure decreased by £40,790 giving an iinereased net Tevenue for that portion of the yep r of £19,378. He was particularly gratified with the increase of £9,816 in the gross revenue <for the four weekly period, over the previous four weekly period. He interpreted the small decrease of £9OO as ap indication of the steadying up in the decrease in revenue and then felt justified lin concluding that there -were indications of a more stable position in the revenue returns. The fact that the following period showed the figures above mentioned, seemed to afford some confirmation of this view and wag a distinctly hopeful sign.
