The other two defendants were each ordered to pay costs. J. L. Kerr (Mr A. 'R. Elcock), was charged with failing to affix unemployment relief stamps to wages receipts.

Counsel said that it was not ,a matter of attempt to defraud the Government, hut merely a matte r of miscalculation. Evidence was a I RO given by the Inspector of Factories (Mr F. G. Davies), who said that he did not seek a heavy penalty, hut. wished to impress 'the matter on employers in general.

Defendant was fined los and costs

Ten charges of failure to pay instalments of the unemployment levy were preferred against M'. F. Barrow-man. ,ji. black,smith, of Mntainui.

Ar,. Davies asked , for an .adjournment, saving that there were prospects of defendant making a settlement. For having defective brakes on the motor -car he was driving, J. Algnew was fmed 5s and costs.
