- “OVER THE FENCE” RELIEF. INTENTION OF SCHEME. (Per Press Association—Copyright). CHRISTCHURCH, July 13. A report, adopted by the Waimairi County. Council last evening, stated, dint at a special committee meeting UrP. It. Climie, of the Unemployment , mid, Ml ft> 'Pn.'M9X> oK.the, Labour Department, attended when a general discussion took .place regarding “over the fence” work in Waimairi.
Numerous instances were given ot the abuse of the intention of the scheme. The committee decided, as ..from the end of the. present period (July 13), no more relief labour be provided on private properties where relief workers are at present working, or had worked in the,past. In respect to approved new applications in .hand, it was decided that men he granted for a period of four weeks only, after which, all “over the fence” work be discontinued.
