BENEFACTOR ROBBED
PRIEST’S TRUST ABUSED
SYDNEY, June 28
A story of a man’s ingratitude to his benefactor was told at tbc Police Court at Dunedoo, New South Wales, recently, -when Stanley Joseph Fee, aged 42, w.is sentenced to a- month’s imprisonment, with hard labour, for stealing money and articles of clothing, valued at £l2, from the Roman Catholic Presbytery at Dunedoo. ; It war, stated that two days before the alleged offence, Fee asked Father Curran for food and shelter, saying he hoped to get some work at Dunedoo, and Father Curran gav.c him 7s. The next day, Father Curran was called away to a funeral at Bathurst, and he asked Fee to look after the presbytery until he returned. Fee, it was alleged, ransacked the house, and took the afternoon train for Sydney The robbery war; discovered at 9 p.m., and accused was arrested with the stolen property. .
• Asked why lie took the money and articles, Fee, who had two previous convictions for false pretences, said: VI don’t know what came over me.” Father Curran appealed for leniency.
