FERRY BOAT
51 HOURS LATE. i (Per United Press Association.) ~ . CHRISTCHURCH, June 27. The ferry steamer Rangatizu berthed at 11.80 atfer being upheld in the stream for nearly five hours'by a thick fag. An extra express ran south leaving lat 12.25, for the benefit of ferry passengers.' The fog which was tho densest for niany years did not lift till noon. Visibility in the city was restricted to fifty yards during the morning arid most of the trains used their head- ‘ lights. Th,a fog at Lyttelton was 400 feet high ;and extended far out to sea. The watchman at Godley Heads found it impossible to note the movements of ships of which four or five were expected. ’ ; ' The spectacle from the top of EvariS Pass was magnificent—to watch the siin shining on the top of the great plianket of fog, with tli© peaks outstanding round the harbour.' This was the first occasion for 25 years that the ferry berthing lias been relayed by fog at 'Lyttelton. '' Transport delays extended to miany railway lines close to the city, and speed was reduced in certain sections.
