BERLIN “AIR RAID”
RECEIVES NO CONFIRMATIONDR HUGENBURG’S RESIGNATION. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Receives . this day at 10-18 a.m.) BERLIN, June 25. Press and official circles continue to make the. utmost political capital out of the “air raid”, which, coincidently came twenty-four hours beiore the opening of Germany’s aviation week, with exhibitions in many cities of models of aeroplanes. • J;t now appears that, not only nobody saw the air raiders, but that nobody ha,- even see the anti-Hitlerite leaflets supposed to have been scattered from the air. Authorities in Berlin say that copies of the leaflets were filed by the various ministries, but are not open to inspection. Herr Gocring has decided to order two police aeroplanes immediately. He declared;. “We must have defence aeroplanes. I had not a single mac.hainh,” he told, the British united press, “that could he sent aloft yesterday. The; incident -shows how defenceless -Germany is. • Communist -machines might come over at any time. The latest -arrests arc Paul Lopbe (ex-Presi’clent V of the 'Reichstag), and Herr Leusehnor, Socialist, (eX-Ministei of the Interior -at Hes fi e) > who <T(B charged with, derogatory behaviour towards Germany at Geneva, and Herr Erzing . (Catholic Deputy, at Baden), charged with rallying the opponents of the Government.
It ig understood that Hugenbu.rg has tendered his resignation t 0 president von Hindenburg. who has not yet accepted it. It-is stated that Hagen,burg argues that his resignation make-? the Enabling. Act, passed by the -Reichstag on 23rd March, invalid, because the Act is limited' to the -duration of Cabinet.
Nazis deny ill's contention, holding that the l resignations of Ministers <l° not affect the powers of Cabinet, which is held in 'Hitler’s n-pe. The first evangelical Bishop of the Reich, Doctor von B'odeisclnving, has resigned, following the appointment Qt Doctor Jaeger, from the Ministry ot Education, as State Commigsar for ah protestant churches in Prussia. It is recalled that Dr Bodelsowing was elected in opposition to. a Nazi candidate. . ■ j ■The Foreign Office - bluntly rejected the Soviet note-protesting--against the passage of Dr Hugenberg's memorandum at the London Conference, implying that Germany would .seek territory in Russia for colonisation.
