Stoefon won the toss to decide who was to play Vines in the final. Women’s Singles (semi-final); Mrs Helen Wills-Moody beat Miss Rice 6/2, 6/1; Mrs Pittman beat Miss Burke 6/2, 6/4. Doubles (semi-finals); Vines and Gledhill beat I 101 l and Miki (Japan' G/2, 6/4; Kirby (South Africa) a;nd Farquharson defeated Burwell ana Jones 6/4, 7/5.

Repeated rumours that Vines, the tennis champion, is planning to turn professional, were soon partially substantiated to-day, when it was learned that the Tennis Corporation, which promotes professional exhibitions, William Tilden, and other leading players, known as “The Tilden Troupe,” are prepared to offer the Californian one hundred thousand dollars to join the

Troupe next season. Press despatches from London quote Vines as saying that lie would certainly give this offer serious consideration, but lie was now playing amateur tennis, and had made no definite deision to play professionally.
