About IX) wool-growers -ffom all parts of the North Island, .(and' a few from the South Island, attended the meeting of sheepfarmeis at Wellington to-uay convened to consider a scheme for the improving of wool pro. duction and marketing, which was the outcome of u meeting held in Palmer-, sten North on Alay 26th. The scheme, which embodies the, imposition of a levy of 3d per bale to meet the ccpt of putting the machinery of improvement into operation, was approved •and carried by an overwhelming majority. __ A/;" Uncompromising opposition was advanced by the representatives -of tlie stock and station companies and the brokers to any compulsion or any Government interference in the scheme.
Air W. J. Poison, ALP., urged that the power, 3 of the Aleat Board should be extended, and the scheme undertaken by that Board, instead of. setting up o. new organisation. He hinted at opposition in Parliament to the institution of a- levy, A strong protest was made against the (shipping charges for wool, as against those of other freights. 'The functions of the administrative body as outlined, .provide for giving instructions to fanners for the elimination of scrub sires, research work,, the preparation of clips for sale, freights on wool, and dissemination •of information, and contact with other bodies.
LORE BLEDISLOE GIVES CUP. J WELLINGTON, June 22. It was -reported at the Council ofj the Royal Agricultural Society to-day. that Lord Rledisloe had offered a chal % lenge cup for Red Poll cattle, ,and another for export pigs at the RoyalShow to be field at Auckland next February, un the suggestion of Prep: fessor R. Alexander, of Lincoln College, it was decided to submit the request to Lord Rledisloe that the second cup be given for the best bacon pig, rather than lor pork. N.Z. RAAIS FOR S'.AMERICA. „ WELLINGTON, June 22. There will'be thirty-one rams shipped for Buenos Aires by the Northumberland, which leaves : Wellington on Saturday. Three Alard-erton breeders have contributed the shipment, which included two Romneys, and two, Lin'l coins on account, of Air H. J. Rayner; two -Romneys, 10- Lincolns .and one Corriedale, from Air AV. Rayner; and three Lincolns, on account of Air L. Wilton. The majority 'are champions. This is the thrd- annual shipment mads by these Afasterton breeders, and on each previous occasion the prices they realised in Argentine have been about three times what would have been realised in New Zealand.
