CURE OF LEPROSY
SUSCEPTIBILITY OF CHILDREN. LONDON, June 17. Sir Leonard Rogers, speaking at a meeting of the British Empire Leprosy Relief Association in London, declared that if infection of all children could be prevented, leprosy would die out. “We now possess the means to reduce leprosy, greatly within a single decade,” lie said. ■> In the Soudan 0000 case were found in ail infected area; 4800 infective cases here put into a colony and treated, and within the last year 2230 had been discharged free from all signs of the disease. \ Remarkable progress had been made in India. In the Centra! Provinces and Madras alone, 60,000 persons were being treated and about 1000 doctors had been taught modern. methods of treatment.
'ln tropical Africa it had been found that children wore most susceptible to the disease, half the total infections taking place below the age of 20. “Children,” ;snid Sir Leonard, “are the key to the leprosy problem.”
