UNEMPLOYED RELIEF
The following circular ha* been issued by the Unemployment Board 'to ail local authorities: — , ISSUE OF WORKING BOOTS. “You have probably seen reference in the to the decision of the Unemployment Board to issue a pair of working- boots to all relief workers who have been engaged on rationed work under Scheme No. 5 .for a period of twenty-six ox - more consecutive weeks. “Before the issue of the boots, relief workers will bo required to perform an .additional day’s work under Scheme No. 5, without pay and briefly, the procedure to be followed is : “The worker will c&M at the Bureau and complete an application form andbe handed all authority addressed to the local body to do one day’s additional: work without pay. On the completion of the work the overseer or cth-ey authorised officer :will endorse this form in the space provided and hand it back to the worker for presentation to the Certifying 1 Officer. Certifying Officers have been asked t,o obtain from local employing authorities specimen signatures of all officers -authorised, to endorse the necessary particulars on this form, -and- I shaY. be pleased if you will • arrange to s u PPly the Certifying Officer with a. list of such names together with specimen signatures. On tile . Worker returning this form, the boots will be issued to him. “Certifying.. Officers have been advised that it i s -not necessary for the worker to perform the who’e eight hours’ work in one day. If it is convenient to the local authority, the work may be done by adding -one or more hours to the •work ration each week until the whole eight hours bars -'been worked. “In order that' the scheme may be successful, the co-operation of all local employing authorities is earnestly requested. “No doubts th e Certifying Officer will communicate with* you shortly to seek your co-operation.” In connection with the foregoing the Mining Executive of the Westland County has received the ' following reply from the Unemployment' Board regarding the request made in reference to the retail trader ' being permitted to take • part: in thtv scheme ' "" t t “I have-to acknowledge the : receipt of your letter'of the 15th distant, forwarding a resolution of the M ning •Executive to th e effect that any .befits required for urgent Vases should' be prvrlv'sed through’ the local trades pejnpio;
