OBITUARY

The death took place on Saturday night of Mrs Eliza Jane Groom, a well known resident of Grey mouth. Deceased, who had reached the ripe age o? 79 years, ' was a native of West Bromwich Staffordshire, England, and came to is few Zealand 45‘ years ago ; She resided iii • the Brunner district' ‘for 28 years and had since lived at Paroa. Her husband, SaffitteT Groom; predeceased her over three years;‘ago, and she is survived by two daughters, Mrs A, Gilbert, of Paroa, and Mrs W* Wick, of Runahga, and by three sons, Thomas (Christchurch), .and Robert and George (Greymouth). P. J PERRY. The death is reported from Hobart after a long illness of Mr Phillip James Perry a member of the board or management of the Agricultural Bank, and formerly director of development in Tasmania. He was aged 73 years. Mr Perry, as a young man was enga:ed in farming in New Zealand, and then accepted the post of principal of the Colonial College in Suffolk, England, where all branches of farming, were .carried on. Later he returned to New Zealand with a party of settlers, eventually accepting a position with an English company having extensive mining interests in Westland, including the Waiho sluicing claim. Mr Perry was a resident of Plokitika for several years and served for a term as a member of the southern riding of the Westland County Council. After leaving Hokitika Mr Perry was appointed director of development in Tasmania, where he was connected with many public and private organisations. *
