WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

CELEBRATION AT WOODSTOCK The initial Birthday cf the Rimu and Woodstock Womans Institute was celebrated in the Woodstock Hall on Wednesday evening, when despite the very unfavourable weather conditions quite a nic-e gathering assembled to do justice to the occasion, visitors being present from Hokitika anti Harihari During the evening songs were rendered by Mrs E. Stoop and Miss D. Inwood while Miss Joyce Seddon delighted the assemblage by dancing the Shipping Hope Dance and the Butterfly Dance.

Prior to supper being served Mi's E. •Stoop spoke on behalf of the President (Mrs T. Seddon) who was unavoidably absent owing to indisposition. He •eulogised the good work done by Mrs Appleton the guest cf the evening. Mrs J.mvood secretary of the Womens’ In. thanked Mrs Appleton 0 n behalf of the local members for the help at all times given so voluntarily and asked little Mprtlo Corsan to present her with a mho dish as a small token of gratitude for the many kindnesses and help given to the Local Institute.

Miss Norma Willoughby then presented the guest of the evening with a beautiful posy of flowers. Mrs Mclntyre President of the Hokitikt lustitut: replied.on Mrs Appleton’s behalf, saying what Mrs Appleton had .done was always a labour of love, seeking no reward. She was at all times willing to assist in any way she was able.
