AUCKLAND, May 23

Archibald England Davis, aged 22, formerly an official in the Auckland City Council ‘treasury pleaded guilty to-day to.a charge of stealing 275. The police said that his record was previously unblemished.

Counsel said J that the affair was a tragedy; Davis .by industry and ability had been entrusted with a very responsible work as wages clerk. He had controlled £IOOO weekly and was never a penny short. The magistrate granted a year’s probation.
