SHANGHAI, May 19.
Extraordinary interest is centred in the ease of Mr Lennox 'Simpson, a British journalist, and the editor and Publisher of the '“Harbin Herald,” whom, the Manchukuo authorities decided to deport, they declaring that lie is anti-Japanese and anti-Msmchukuo. It is alleged that Simpson is in the pay of the Soviet. The Manchukuo authorities have requested the British Consul to deport him, which the Consul lies refused to do.
Simpson, in the meantime, is taking refuge’,;in the British Consulate. The Consul- hag entered a. strong protest agiiist ’ liis proposed- deportation, hut the Manchukuo Government declares: "England has not recognised Manchukub, which bus' allowed her Consulate to remain out of sheer hospitality.”
: Manchukuo reiterates its intention to deport him at the first opportunity. Simpson is a brother- of the late Mr -Simpson, who was assassinated at Tientsin, following on © customs coup two years ago.
