MASTER OF SHIP IN COURT.

SAILED VESSEL WITHOUT CREW

WELLINGTON, May 19

In the Magistrate's Court to-ciay Captain Mead, master or tlie vessel Holinglen, was proceeded against by the Marine .Department in connection with the arrival at Wellington recently of the Holmglen without a crew.

Captain Hall, of the Department, said that the ease arose as the result of the recent shipping trouble. The crew refused to go to sea at tne tmiu the vessel was tp have sailed from Lyytelton, and the master decided to come without them. Owing to the peculiar circumstances prevailing at the time, and the fact that the master had already given a whiten explanation, the Department .had instructed him not to press for a heavy penalty. De.endant told the Magistrate (Mr Page), that lie had to act hurriedly. The crew gave lulu no intimation during the day tligt they did not intend to sail. Urgent cargo was on board, and he decided that he had a duty to the owners to get it to Wellington. Mr Page imposed a fine of £5.
