BIG HOPES
OF WINOOKA’S TOUR
In » special interview with the Globa’s’ 5 Sydney representative, Mr Rufe Naylor, who »as signed a contract with the owners to conduct Winooka’s 'American tour,' stated that the of, the horse hoped w clear £IOO,OOO. .“That sum,’ 5 added Mr Naylor, “might appear .stupendous, but Winooka is a great horse, and if be does as well as we expect that s' l ™ probably will’ be' reached. Winooka will be ready to .race five, weeks after landing, .and it is likely that he will make his first appearance at Tan* for an.’ 5
In the - opinion of Naylor, up to a mile Winooka is a greater galloper than 'Phar, Lap. Beyond that distance ■pha-r Lap • would -have beaten the Windbag horse, for he was a better stayer. Although nothing definite has been arranged as to what weight Winook' 1 will carry in his matches, Mr Naylor hopes that something between 7st and Bst will bo named. It was suggested to Naylor recently that Australia’s crack pacer, Walla Walla, might be a, good horse to accompany Winooka on his tour of j America. Consideration was ; given to this proposal, but Mr Naylor believes that the American cracks would be too -good for Walla Walla. > Probably Winooka'* travelling companion will be TrevnlHon. -Panjandrum and the New Zealand sprinter, Golden Wings, have been mentioned as a pair likely to make the trip, but it is unlikely that thev will nccom-j oanv the Winooka party. ■ If Trevailiou goes it will be i~) the capacity of, galloping companion for «-his more il-1 lustrioug stable mate. :
PHAR LAP’S BROTHER. ,
There appears -a. possibility of Friday Night, yearling brother of Phar Lapj being taken to the. United States to -be trained for some o.f, the big races there. Mr A. J. Richardson, who . arrived in Wellington from Sydney on the Maunganui, snd that he started negotiations from ' hi* home in Oalifrrnia late last year, and while in Wellington would communicate with the owney, Vv Armstrong, of Christchurch. Mr Richardson left by the jM.aunganui for San Francisco.
