Following the publication of the report (published yesterday) of the references by the Canterbury /A'fffomobilo Association to expenditure bn West Const roads, the .following figure:? setting out the ••position clearly, have been supplied bv Air T. A. Johnston. a"s representative of the District Highways Council on the West Coast. It will be noted that the figures quoted by tht Canterbury Automobile Association are from the revenue, or maintenance fund only. Before any comparison. can he arrived at, as between the West Coast, and Canterbury, the figures, both from the construction, and re non it e funds, should he studied. The following statement shows, that, excluding earthquake damage, the expenditure on the Canterbury side has •been over £600,000 greater than in Westland, since the inception of the Highways Board. The figures quoted by the Canterbury Automobile Association apply only to the year ending •March 31, /L 932. The figures for the yeai ending March 31, 1933. have not/ •vet been published.
