POSSIBLE TROUBLE

AUCKLAND, May 17
A statement that the West Coast District Council of the Miners’ Federation bad asked the Coal Mine Owners’ Association to discuss the present Agreement, was made by Mr W. D. Holgate, the President of the Association, at the annual, meeting of the Taupiri Coal Mines Ltd. Mr Holgate referred to losses to trade caused bv strikes. He mentioned the recent trouble in the “I do not think we are likely to have any further industrial trouble, although trouble is brewing on the West Coast,” be said. “I have received a letter stating that the West Coast miners have asked for a conference in Wellington, to consider the existing agreement.” ill' Holgate said that it was hard to believe that men who were in constant employment wished to go on strike for trivial matters at the present time.
After the meeting, Mr Holgate said that the Executive of the Association had not yet considered the miners’ request. He would be leaving for Wellington at the end of the week.
