Robert Adams, 30, a seaman, was charged with assaulting Harold Leslie -Dirties, so as to cause actual bodily harm. The: charge was brought in consequence of a disturbance on May o, when Bfrtles had a plate smashed an his face in a restaurant, neces--sitnt-img live stitches. The injured man-, in the witness box, could not ■recognise his assailant. His story •showed die was attacked, in const' quenco of his intention to sign on as ;n member of the volunteer crew ol the Mauiiganui. The accused was identified by a .companion.
• Accused denied being the man arid the case was adjourned to enable the police to obtain the evidence of the restaurant proprietor and his wife.
