HINTS TO PLAYERS AND PUBLIC

INTERPRETATION OF RULES,

With tho object of instructing players and public alike on certain phases of irugby, the following rules, with comment, hove been received from “Referee”:—• t

Scrummage ; The player putting, the ball into a scrummage shall stand about three feet from the scrummage ’ : ‘-and with both hands from below the knee shall gently, propel the ball along' a line midwar between, and parallel to, the lines- of feet of the opposing front row forwards.

A penalty kick-is awarded fo r any •breach of the -rules, so that players ought to take notice-, and they will, see why so many penalties, have ' been awarded. I will draw the players' attention on general appealing on th# field. There ia ho such privilege to any player, and even the 1 captain cannot appeal. He only has th«, right to make a claim on certain laws of-the game, such ob taking a. »eruni iuatpad of a line-out, or a scrum back instead of a penalty kick under Off-side infringements ■ will be dealt with later.
