AIRMAN’S VICTORY IN MID-AIR.

LONDON, May 3

A pilot in the air mail service, Annibale Pecoroni, returned to Trieste with tlie body of an eagle -which lie slew after a desperate battle ,in mid-aflr. He said that he passed the eagle while flying with mails from Trieste to Zara. On his return journey, having no luggage or passengers, lie decided to fly round in search of the eagle, and sighted it again near Pirano., The airman drew a revolver, and then the eagle swooped down on the machine, and a grim fight began. Pedoroui shot the eagle several times and the bird, enraged by its wounds, made repeated attacks oil its assailant. When it came to close quarters, Pecoroni stabbed if with bis dagger and it fell dying to the earth. The airman, who was slightly hurt in t'ge battle, landed to take his trophy on board. The machine was not damaged.
